And So the Summer Begins!

Woo hoo! Summer is finally here! I'm not sure when the official season of Summer begins. But it doesn't really feel like Summer until the kids have their last day of school. Here in this county, the kids' last day was on Friday the 7th. And so far, it is a super hot and rainy one! But it is hurricane season (we live in Florida), so that is to be expected. One moment, the sun is shining brightly, looking like a beautiful Summer day. The next moment, the sky looks gloomy and the clouds pour down heavy tears of rain that turn the heat into humidity, and we end up with warm, sticky rain! But I'll take this over some of the crazy weather some other people are having right now! I still love living in Florida!

One of the cool things about living in Florida is that we can wear the cute Summer clothes for pretty much most of the year. In my younger and thinner days, I used to wear some of those shirts that you tie up in the back. They leave you belly and you back exposed. Well, I can't do that anymore! But I did want a shirt similar to that style, but age (and body type) appropriate. So I decided to crochet something like that for myself! I know some of you may be thinking that yarn is too thick to wear in the Summer. But it's not if you use the right kind of yarn, and make the right style of shirt!
The front. I used a tighter stitch for the top part so you can't see through the shirt. I used a looser stitch for the bottom part.

The back. I still get to tie it up, but it covers up the stuff I don't want seen!

The shirt may not be something you would find on the runway, but I like it!

Another cool thing about Florida is the fresh fruit! My boyfriend has an uncle that brings us freshly picked fruit from time to time, plus we live around the corner from a produce market. So we're good on fresh fruit here! Yesterday, the uncle brought us three watermelons. Watermelons seem like the ultimate Summer fruit! But I wanted to see if we could do something else with them besides just eat them. So I found some stuff online. This is what I tried today:

Watermelon Cooler Slushy
Ingredients
  1. Place watermelon and ice into a blender. Pour in lime juice, sugar, and salt. Blend until smooth.

Once you have the watermelon cut, it is pretty quick and simple. It's pretty good too!
(for the adult version, I might try it with some alcohol later on!)

So far, this is how my Summer is beginning. Not too bad!
