Crafting Tip: Add You

As a crafter, I tend to spend a lot of time looking at and sharing projects with like minded people. I look around on different sites to see what other people are out there creating. Sometimes, I get inspired by their projects. Either the project itself inspires me, or something about the project inspires me and I go in a whole different direction. But either way, they inspire me. A lot of times, I might see something and want to do it myself. But I don't want to do the exact thing someone else has already done.

So I ask myself what kind of spin I can put on something to make it original. The answer always comes back to me. Yeah, me! If I add a little bit of myself into a project or creation, it becomes an original, just like me! Anyone can their self to a project by incorporating elements of their personality or some of the things they like.

For example, if someone where to make one of the baskets that is featured as this week's project, a person can incorporate his or her self by choosing what colors to use, adding different ribbons in patterns that fit their personality (loopy, swirly, straight and neat, etc...), or using different decorations (flowers, smiley faces, buttons, trinkets, etc...). Anything really! The key is just to add a little of you for a truly unique and original creation!

Don't be afraid to be silly and have fun with what you create. Explore the silly side of you, the serious side of you, the bright side of you, the dark side of you, and everything in between!

  5. That's the perfect way to put it! No matter where the inspiration comes from, adding "you" to it makes it your own. Great post!
