Crafting Tip: You Are Your Best Advertisement

This tip is for all of you crafters that are trying to sell some of your crafts.

I went to a get-together last night and I decided to wear a headband that I had crocheted for myself. I also brought some of my business cards along to try to drum up some business (this is a skill I am still trying to work on, since I am generally a shy person). I spoke to some of the ladies about the kind of things I make and pointed out my headband as an example. Well, one of the ladies liked it! She placed an order for two for her and one for her daughter! I was so excited and pumped that I came home and stayed up so late last night working on some of her order!

The lesson that I learned from this is that I am my best advertisement. I am still in the beginning stages of my shop. So things are moving pretty slowly. But I realized that there are some things I can work on to help move business along. For example, I need to speak up about what I do because I never know who will be interested. And, since some of my crafts are wearable, I need to make sure that I wear them so that people have something to look at as an example of my work. For the things that cannot be worn, I try to keep good photos on my phone so that I have some other examples of things people might be interested in.

This is the headband I wore last night. It's black, so it's a little hard to see the details. But it has a crocheted flower on it.

So I learned some valuable lessons last night. I hope that what I have learned will be helpful to some of you too. Have you learned any helpful lessons lately? Please share...

  1. I can't see it ... but I'm sure it's fabulous. Thanks for following my blog ... I just had to be a follower of a fellow Tampa area artist ... I'm in Lithia ... nothing is here but just as well since I'm kinda house bound. Great post.

    Happiness always,
